The All Progressives Congress, Lagos chapter, and a pro-APC group, Lagos4Lagos Movement has disagreed over the Saturday’s local government congress held in the state.
While the Tunde Balogun-led Lagos APC said it was not aware that a parallel LG congress was held in the state, the pro-APC group insisted that it held an equivalent exercise in Lagos on Saturday.
The APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, Mr Tunde Balogun, told The PUNCH on Sunday that the APC mainstream congresses held at designated places in the state were generally peaceful.
He said, “We generally had a peaceful congress in Lagos. As for the Lagos4Lagos group, I will get facts about them whether they had a parallel or not.
“But from the information I have got so far, the APC congresses were orderly and people conducted themselves well. There may have been few cases of disorderliness among some members, but generally it had been peaceful in Lagos.”
He added that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission and other relevant authorities were on the ground to monitor the exercise.
However, the spokesperson for the Lagos4Lagos Movement, Mr Akeem Adeleke, in a separate interview with one of our correspondents, said a parallel congress was held, adding that nobody could have claimed ignorance of the parallel congress.
“We had a parallel congress and this is expected. Maybe Balogun is not conversant with what is on the ground. He might be playing social media politics but we know what is happening and we are fully in control.
“Lagosians will expect that, at least, at the end of the day, justice will prevail and the Lagos4Lagos group will definitely triumph because justice and equity go hand-in-hand.”
Adeleke added that the movement has gained popularity among Lagosians and they are pleased with the result of the LG congress held.
“Lagosians are happy with us and you can see everywhere they came out en masse to line up behind the candidates of Lagos4Lagos and understand our situation and we are moving on. We are happy with the results so far.
“With what happened at the ward level and the LG congress, anyone thinking we are not taking over is still living in a fool’s paradise. It is very obvious that we have taken over the entire Lagos State. We have taken over; our structure is well fortified,” he said.
