The screening of the 18 commissioner-nominees forwarded by Governor Babajide Sanwoolu to the state house of assembly for clearance is underway.
The 12-man adhoc committee of the house kicked off the exercise at exactly 2pm on Tuesday.
Of the 18 names presented to the lawmakers for approval, 12 are being screened today while the remaining 6 nominees will have their date with the committee on Wednesday.
The nominees scheduled for screening today are:
1. Mrs Bolaji Cecelia Dada
2. Mr Sam Egube
3. Mr Osiyemi Oluwaseun Oriyomi
4. Mr Olalere Odusote
5. Mrs Folashade Kaosarat Ambrose-Medem,
6. Dr. Olumide Oluyinka
7. Dr. Oluwarotimi Omotola Fashola
8. Dr. Mosopefoluwa George
9. Barr. Barakat Bakare
10. Mr Abayomi Oluyomi
11. Mr Gbenga Omotosho
12. Prof. Akinola Abayomi.
Those slated for Wednesday are; Afolabi Abiodun Tajudeen, Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe, Tolani Sule Akibu, Yekini Nurudeen Agbaje, Iyabode Oyeyemi Ayoola and Sola Shakirudeen Giwa.
Again, some of the nominees whose names were earlier rejected are being drilled by the screening committee.
Meanwhile on Monday, the Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, urged the screening committee led by Fatai Mojeed to ensure a thorough screening process and report to the House on Thursday.
In a letter by Governor Sanwo-Olu to the House of Assembly, titled: ‘Forwarding of Official List of Nominees for Appointment as Commissioners and Special Advisers’, the letter thanked the Speaker and members of the House for their diligence and commitment to the recent screening and confirmation of 22 nominees.
After careful consideration of the 17 rejected names, the governor said, “I have decided to represent a list of nominees which includes a balanced selection of previously presented and new individuals.
“This list represents a broad political spectrum and diverse backgrounds reflective of the rich diversity of our lovely state,” he added in the letter.
The governor said he is confident that the new nominees would bring fresh ideas to help Lagos’s growth and progress.
He urged the House to screen the nominees for clearance.
Meanwhile, the House of Assembly has resolved to review the performance of the 2023 budget in preparation for the presentation of the 2024 budget estimate by Governor Sanwo-Olu.
