The Lagos State Government has announced its preparedness to host the upcoming international boat race, assuring participants and residents of maximum safety and smooth operations on the waterways.
Speaking on Friday, the General Manager of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Emmanuel Oluwadamilola, said the state has, over the years, invested significantly in safety infrastructure to secure its waterways and promote water transportation.
He noted that Lagos had consistently upgraded facilities, positioning itself as the safest state in Nigeria for water transport. As part of preparations, patrol boats have been deployed, while the Marine Police and the Nigerian Navy are working in collaboration with LASWA to provide effective surveillance during the event.
Oluwadamilola added that a central control room equipped with advanced technology is now operational to monitor the waterways in real time. He described the development as a major boost to Lagos’ capacity to host international sporting events of this nature.
In addition, the state government has undertaken shoreline cleaning, designated docking zones, and provided security boats for vessels participating in the competition.
“We are delighted that this race is finally happening in Lagos, which demonstrates the state’s readiness and capacity to successfully host an event of international standard,” Oluwadamilola said.
