As part of efforts to ensure that drivers in Lagos State comply with safety guidelines to cushion the spread of COVID-19, the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI) has distributed 200 face masks to professional drivers present during training at the institute.
The General Manager LASDRI, Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu, reiterated the need for all drivers to comply strictly with the COVID-19 safety guidelines as issued by the Lagos State and Federal Governments at the events which at the Institute’s headquarters in Oshodi and Lagos Island Centres.
She stressed that COVID-19 is still much in the society and as such, drivers should comply strictly with the safety rules and regulations stipulated by the state government so as to curb its spread.
While noting that the majority of road users have let down their guard due to the erroneous belief that COVID-19 era is over, she harped, “COVID-19 is real and it is still very much with us contrary to the recent assumption among some residents in the state that we are in the post-COVID-19 era already”.
She further cited recent data updates which showed that the rate of the infection is on the increase.
According to Tiamiyu, with the level of awareness campaigns embarked upon by the state government across the metropolis and the various media, most drivers are already aware of what to do to keep safe at all times.
She, therefore, enjoined the trainee drivers to ensure that they comply strictly with all the safety guidelines as part of their daily routine.
“Good health and sound mind are key factors in safe driving among others,” she emphasised.
The GM also restated the need for professional drivers to register with LASDRI to be well trained with the standard facilities put in place by the state government for their benefit rather than patronising touts.
