The Lagos State Government on Thursday held its annual Christmas Carol and called for vigilance in this Yuletide period.
The Christmas Carol was held by the Office of the First Lady and the Ministry of Home Affairs at the State House, Ikeja.
At the event were Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Kadri Hamzat and the First Lady, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu.
Lagos Commissioner for Home Affairs, Prince Anofiu Elegushi, said while “we are in celebration mode towards the Christmas and New Year celebrations, I wish to implore us all to keep safe and be our brothers’ keeper and continue to uphold our dear country, Nigeria in prayers”.
He said the Christmas Carol of Nine Lesson was meant to give glory to God for seeing the State and the people through the year.
Elegushi stated that the end of the year is a period of sober reflection, a time to take stock of all activities from the beginning of the year in order to express our gratitude to the Most High for His divine intervention in Lagos State.
“Despite our challenges, we are still standing tall by His grace. I beseech us all to count our blessings and give thanks because He has indeed been faithful.
“The theme of this year’s Christmas Carol of Nine Lessons; A Stone of Grace as stated in Proverbs 17: 8 tells us that a gift is like a precious stone in the eyes of the holder. We are all products and recipients of God’s grace.”
He added that this “season teaches us to extend our hands of generosity and brotherliness towards mankind, we are required to spread love not only during the yuletide but throughout the whole year, and therefore, I enjoin us all to emulate the virtues of Jesus Christ as demonstrated in his humility and service to humanity.
“Today, as I warmly welcome you all to the 16th edition of the Christmas Carol of Nine Lessons, I want to encourage us to rejoice and appreciate the faithfulness of God in our lives and in Lagos State as we proceed with the programme, with the assurance that Year 2023, being an election year will usher in more dividends of democracy to all.”
Speaking at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu thanked Lagosians for their support for his administration and prayed that God would continue to keep them.
He also urged the people at event to observe a one minute silence for the Nigerian Ambassador to Spain, Demola Seriki who died on 15th, December 2022.
The Wife of the Governor, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu urged residents of Lagos to collect their Permanent Voter’s Cards to be able to participate in the upcoming 2023 general elections.
