Lagos State government has disclosed that the state is prepared for agro-allied and manufacturing investors willing to establish agro processing firms and others in line with the commencement of the implementation of African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.
The administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo- Olu had stated that it was already receiving a significant level of interests from investors across the world, who are eyeing the state for more agro allied processing firms, manufacturing plants and others in line with the takeoff of AfCFTA in the continent.
The Special Adviser, Lagos State Office On Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Mrs. Solape Hammond, disclosed this at the envirommental science hygiene launch of palm tree hygiene foaming, liquid and gel hand sanitiser products in Lagos. According to her, government has been having series of meetings with various international multilateral firms about the setting up of manufacturing outfits and agric processing plants in the state in commencement of AfCFTA and this is expected to boost not only job creation, but also investments that will enhance the state’s GDP growth.
Hammond explained that “there is a lot of interest in agro-allied manufacturing in Lagos today. We had a meeting with one of the international multilateral companies and one of the conversations we had with them was around supporting manufacturing in Africa.
“No doubt, there have been a significant levels of interests, especially with the commencement of the AfCFTA agreement in the continent. Many companies are now looking up forward to establish in Nigeria and Lagos in particular, as the export hubs.”
Speaking on the debut of the palm tree hygiene foaming, liquid and gel hand sanitiser products, she lauded the management of the company for choosing Lagos, which, according to her, is the Centre of Excellence and also the commercial nerve centre of not only Nigeria, but of West Africa and sub-Sahara Africa.
