A 25-year-old man, Emmanuel Kayode, has appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over a post he made on social media.
Kayode is facing two counts of breach of the peace and false publication.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between July 11 and August 14, on Shonubi Street, Ago, Okota, Lagos.
According to Aigbokhan, the defendant made an offensive and false publication on social media about the complainant, Miss Florence Olofinjana.
“The defendant published fake news and posted the photograph of the complainant on social media. The offences committed by the defendant contravened sections 39 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015,” he added.
Kayode, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges, after which the presiding magistrate, Eniola Ogunkanmi, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate also ordered that the sureties must provide evidence of their employment and tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
