The Lagos State Government on Wednesday charged staff of the State’s Building Control Agency (LASBCA) on service improvement and efficiency.

Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Omotayo Bamgbose-Martins, spoke at a training for staff of LASBCA in Ikeja, Lagos.

He said that the governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was passionate about introducing measures that would assist staff to work more productively for Lagosians.

Bamgbose-Martins stated that the workshop was part of the measures to make the staff understand their duties and how best they could achieve desired results for the government and members of public that have trust in them.

The commissioner stated that all policies and programmes adopted by the government were not to make the staff redundant, but rather to get a better workforce that will serve the taxpayers better.

In his words: “We want to improve service and ensure efficiency in all we do and the ability to restore public confidence in the building control agency. This is one of the measures that we have introduced to get experts to speak with us as it concerns a cultural and attitudinal change in the agency. This is for us to be reminded of some of the work ethics of public servants.

“With this, we believe our staff will be reminded of the need to be proud and knowledgeable about their work. So, everyone needs to work in such a manner that we must be result oriented. This is one thing that we understand will bring the desired dawn for the government in the property sector.”

General Manager, LASBCA, Gbolahan Oki, explained that the workshop was designed to put everyone in the agency understand what were their roles and how they could improve on them.

The general manager said the agency’s roles in Lagos growth and development required that the government invest in human capital development through engaging and equipping Staff with requisite knowledge to perform optimally for the state.

“With this workshop, we aim to arm our officers with the robust knowledge of State Civil Service Policy, refresh their memories on the workings of LASBCA, listen to our target audience on their perspectives of the Agency and how we can better serve them whilst learning how to manage our health so we do not burn out in the process of carrying out our day to day activities,” he said.

Speakers at the training were the Permanent Secretary, Local Government Establishment, Training & Pensions Office, Abiodun Bamgboye; Permanent Secretary, Civil Service Commission, Boladele Dapo-Thomas, a former Permanent Secretary in the ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Kayode Anibaba.

Other speakers at the workshop were: Tola Animashaun, developers, Bamidele Onalaja and Dr. Kennedy Okonkwo.
