As part of efforts to forestall security threats, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba has reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force towards ensuring adequate security as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) prepares to embark on nationwide strike, Wednesday.
IGP Alkali Baba in a strategic meeting at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday with police managers told his men to double their efforts to maintain peace and security within the period.
According to him, three thousand, six hundred and nineteen (3,619) suspects have been arrested for participation in various crimes across the country.
He noted that the police will do everything professionally possible to ensure that the nation’s peace is not threatened even as the people exercise their civic responsibilities.
The IGP’s statement comes on the heels of comments by the NLC, threatening to have Nigerian workers go on strike in protest against the hike of petrol pump price following the removal of subsidy.
The NLC gave the Federal Government until Wednesday, May 7, to reverse the pump price or risk an industrial action that could further plunge the nation’s economy.
