Acclaimed singer, Mr. Patrick Okorie, better known as Patoranking has disclosed that 10 African youths would receive full coverage of tuition and other study-related costs at the African Leadership University.
Patoranking explained that they deserved the scholarship because they “have distinguished themselves through their vision, resilience, and the impact that they have already made in their communities, despite their financial limitations.”
He also revealed that they were selected from among several thousands of candidates across 45 African countries.
The students who would be schooling at either ALU’s Mauritius or Rwana Campus, were praised to have demonstrated outstanding potential in becoming part of the next generation of leaders that will greatly improve the continent.
Patoranking announced their names as: “Ms. Chidera Nnadozie (Nigerian); Mr. Abdulmaleek Usman (Nigerian); Mr. Emmanuel Markwei (Ghana); Ms. Hardness Range (Tanzania); Ms. Hanisani Nleya (Rwanda);
“Mr. Amos Kasumba (Mauritius); Ms. Kafumba Daramay (Mauritius); Emmanuel Okorwoit (Mauritius); Ms. Sandra Mugeniwayesu (Rwanda) and Mr. Youssouf Ouedraogo (Rwanda).”
The Director of Admissions at ALU, Mr. Tino Elger, noted that the scholarship was highly contested and these young Africans were able to stand out clearly with an impressive story.
Patoranking also announced that he would dedicate his time to monitor the progress of each beneficiary throughout their study.
Recall that the award winning singer officially announced the ‘Patoranking Scholarship’ programme last year, describing it as a scheme to identify young Africans, in low-income areas, who possess an exceptional track record of impact within their communities, and connect them with a world-class education that would enable them to scale this impact.
Patoranking is an Afro reggae singer who broke into the Nigerian Music spotlight, in 2013, with his hit single ‘Alubarika’. He was signed to the Timaya-headed Dem Mama Records. In 2014, he signed a deal with Foston Musik and took his exit from Dem Mama Records.
He released his debut studio album, ‘God Over Everything’, in 2016, and he has continued to gain continental recognition for his music, with awards including two Headies awards (Best Collabo and Best Reggae/Dancehall single; 2014).
