House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, during a press conference Thursday, accused Trump of inciting an “armed insurrection” and called for Vice President Mike Pence and the Cabinet to remove Trump through the 25th Amendment.
“If the Vice President and Cabinet do not act, the Congress may be prepared to move forward with impeachment.”
Pelosi added that it is the “overwhelming sentiment” of the House Democratic caucus to impeach Trump.
Pelosi posed rhetorical questions to various Cabinet members on their motivations for allowing Trump to stay in office, such as asking Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin “What is it? Is it about success in business later?”
Pelosi called Trump a “very dangerous person who should not continue in office” and said his removal is “urgent” and an “emergency of the highest magnitude,” adding, “While there’s only 13 days left, any day can be a horror show for America.”
Biden Declines To Address Efforts To Remove Trump
President-elect Joe Biden made clear at the beginning of remarks on Thursday that he would not address calls by lawmakers in both parties for Trump to be removed by Vice President Mike Pence and his Cabinet through the 25th Amendment.
Biden was introducing Merrick Garland, his nominee for attorney general, as well as several other Department of Justice appointments.
