Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) have intercepted four suspected drug traffickers who excreted over 124 wraps of substances suspected to be cocaine at Alakija, Festac area of Lagos State in an attempt to leave the country.
The suspects are: Obum Eze, aged 31 from Achi village in Enugu State; Ikechukwu Onoduagu, aged 34 from Wuver Street Cassa Morocco; Peter Ejimofor Onyeka, 35 from Ozumazu, Nsukka, Enugu State; and John Madu, aged 39 from Nnato town, Umunochi LGA of Abia State.
It was learnt that although the suspects were arrested as armed robbers following information, they confessed to being illicit drug traffickers.
During interrogation, the suspects were said to have excreted the drugs they had swallowed to travel abroad with before their arrested.
The new Commissioner of Police in charge of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Imohimi Edgal confirmed that the suspects were undergoing interrogation in police custody.
According to Edgal, they received information that a gang of deadly armed robbers were planning an operation. This made operatives of SARS FCID Annex Lagos on September 1 this year around past 9a.m. nabbed the suspects.
During profiling, it was gathered that the suspects denied to be armed robbers but drug traffickers pulled from various locations by some unknown persons to Lagos State, where they were made to swallow various quantities of wrapped substances.
During interrogation, the suspects, police revealed, began to excrete the substances. A total of one 124 wraps and still counting have been defecated so far.
It was also gathered that the suspects alongside the exhibits have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for necessary actions while the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
