Three suspected highway robbers have been apprehended at the Lagos-Ibadan expressway by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command, over the weekend. The suspects, Messrs. Uzefa Idris, Adamu Yakubu and Ayuba Buhari, were arrested following a distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer of Owode Egba Division, Mr. Matthew Ediae.
According to the DPO, he received a call that a Mazda bus had been forcefully stopped on the highway by a gang of armed robbers and the occupants were being dispossessed of their belongings.
Ediae narrated that he led his anti-robbery team to the scene and on sighting the policemen, the hoodlums took to their heels but were chased into the bush where three among them were apprehended. The two victims of their operation, Oluwakemi Oyegade, who was dispossessed of N545,000 and one Itel phone as well as the driver, Zacheaus Olaniyi, were rescued to the station.
They narrated that the hoodlums attacked their vehicle from the bush and caused it to halt, and began started beating them with a machete before dispossessing them of their valuables.
A sum of N99,700 Naira and one Itel phone were recovered from the robbers.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kenneth Ebrimson has issued the immediate transfer of the suspects to the special anti-robbery squad (SARS) for discreet investigation and prosecution
