While the reality of Burna Boy winning the Best Global Music award at the Grammys, earlier this year, still remains fresh in our minds, the latest nomination of Wizkid, as well as Femi and Made Kuti, in the same category revives the excitement for Nigeria’s music lovers.
Nominated for their joint album dubbed, “Legacy+,” the father-and-son duo are up against Wizkid’s globally acclaimed “Made in Lagos” album, as the only two Nigerian projects shortlisted in that category.
Another interesting category is the newly created Best Global Music Performance, which sees Wizkid and Tems clinch another nod for their duet dubbed, “Essence.” Femi Kuti is also nominated in this category for his song, “Pa Pa Pa,” while Burna Boy as his third Grammy Nod for his collaboration with Angelique Kidjo on “Do Yourself.”
The Grammy is an award presented by the Recording Academy to recognise achievement in the music industry of the United States. It started recognising African music, under the now defunct World Music Category, 30 years ago, before renaming it to the Best Global Music Award.
The 2022 Grammy will be broadcasted live on January 31.
