Two suspected cultists, Ahmed Abdulrasheed, 27, and Sadam Isa, 29, have been arraigned before an Ogba Magistrate’s court for causing breach of peace.
The defendants, alongside others still at large, were arraigned on a four-count bordering on conspiracy, unlawful association, unlawful possession of weapon and breach of peace.
The charge read in part, “That you, Ahmed Abdulrasheed, Sadam Isa, and others still at large, on or before August 17, 2022, at about 9:00am, at General Paint area of Ajah Lagos, in the Lagos State Magisterial District, did knowingly, intentionally form and organise an unlawful society or cult, manage and assist in the management of an unlawful society or cult named “Aiye Confraternity” knowing same to be unlawful; did unlawfully have in your possession without lawful authority a locally made cut to seize barrel gun; and did conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by smoking prohibited hard drugs in a public place.”
The prosecution said that the offences were punishable under Sections 168 (d), 411, and 298(3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, and Section 2 (3) (a) (b)(d) (e) of the Lagos State Laws of Unlawful Society and Cultism, 2021.
However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the offences. The matter was adjourned for trial.
In a related development, a 25-year-old man, Samuel Etene, was arraigned in the Ogba Magistrates’ Court for allegedly belonging to an unlawful society.
The defendant was said to belong to “Aro-Baggar Confraternity” which is proscribed by the law as an unlawful society.
