An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Lagos, has Monday, sentenced 28 years old hairstylist, Tayo Bakare, to 20 years in prison for kidnapping and raping a student (name withheld) on Industrial Training.
Bakare was accused of luring, kidnapping and raping the student who was attached to a media house in Lagos after using the survivor’s friend’s phone to deceive her.
The convict did not only beat her after luring her to the hotel, he was said to have raped and stole her belongings, which included two mobile phones, ATM cards, and N2,000.
Justice Abiola Soladoye, who presided over the case, found the accused guilty of four out of the eight-count charge of conspiracy, robbery, deprivation of liberty and rape levelled against him by the Lagos State Government.
According to the prosecution led by Mrs. Arinola Momoh-Ayokanbi, Bakare had allegedly lured and raped the student and her friend.
The prosecutor alleged that Bakare had, sometime in August 2017, lured the student to a hotel in Ikotun, Lagos by using her friend’s phone, which he stole.
“Unknown to her, she was not chatting with her female friend but the convict. When she got to the hotel room, the convict came into the room and told her that her friend had set her up,” Momoh-Ayokanbi noted.
The convict was said to have threatened her by saying that he was a member of the ‘Badoo’ cult.
“The convict beat, raped her and stole her belongings, which included two mobile phones, ATM cards and N2,000, after which locked her in the hotel room and left,” she added.
Having found the accused guilty, Justice Abiola Soladoye sentenced him to 20 years imprisonment.
