The Lagos State police Command has allegedly reacted to the news of the death of two protesters who were reportedly killed during the day four protest in Surulere area of Lagos on Monday Octet 12, after the police opened fire on them.
Reacting to the death of the peaceful protesters, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi claimed that three policemen were shot by fully armed protesters today.
He said he had no information on the death of any protester but added that some persons invaded a police formation in the area and shot three members of the disbanded unit.
According to Adejobi, the officers are currently receiving treatment at the intensive care unit of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
He added, “They are anti-kidnapping men and they were on mufti. I wouldn’t know if anyone was shot, perhaps the protesters because they were fully armed, they carry what policemen carry.”
While other areas of Lagos remained civil despite the protest, officers in Surulere were nothing close to it. They shot sporadically. Residents in their homes lay low on the floor for fear of being killed by stray bullets.
