Super Falcons goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, has spoken following the team’s defeat to England via penalty shoot-out in the Round of 16 on Monday morning.
On her Instagram account, Nnadozie shared pictures from the match expressing her disappointment that the team didn’t make it to the next round of the World Cup.
The female goalkeeper thanked supporters for their love and encouragement and assured them that they would return stronger.
She wrote, “Soo sad not to have qualified for the next round of the World Cup. We gave our all, and I am super proud of this team. We will surely come back better and stronger, thank you all for your love and support.”
In a related development, an apology by Super Falcons forward, Desire Oparanozie, has been posted on twitter on Monday. She apologised for not being able to convert her penalty into a goal.
Following the team’s defeat to England via penalty shootout in the Round of 16 on Monday morning, Oparanozie shared a picture of herself in tears on her Instagram account and apologised to Nigerians.
She wrote, “Sad day! Very disappointing to have lost through penalties, and even more disappointing not to have converted mine. And for this I deeply apologise..”
England beat Nigeria 4-2 on penalties to reach the quarterfinals of the Women’s World Cup after their last-16 tie finished 0-0 at the end of extra time.
