…Seeks support from residents, motorists
In its continuous drive to ease gridlocks across the state, the Lagos State Government has issued a traffic advisory guiding vehicular traffic movement along Ikorodu road.
This is in furtherance of its immediate plan to begin the rehabilitation and construction works on the Ketu – Mile 12 segment of the road, as contained in a statement issued Sunday June 7.
The State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, said the traffic advisory became necessary to sensitise motorists and other road users on the traffic counter flow regime whilst encouraging the use of alternative roads during the period of the rehabilitation works.
“As part of traffic management strategies during the period of construction of Ketu – Mile 12 segment of Ikorodu road, government has provided traffic diversion plans and alternative routes to ensure smooth traffic flow along the corridor.”
He emphasised that motorists coming from Ikorodu inward Ketu would be diverted from the exit of Mile 12 Bridge to the rehabilitated service lane and the main carriage lanes on the other side of the counter flow up to Ile-Ilè Bus stop inward Ketu from 4am to 2pm daily.
While motorists going towards the 3rd Mainland Bridge are advised to turn under the Bridge to Ajelogo inward Alapere and Ogudu, another alternative route is through Ikosi road to link Toll Gate inward 3rd Mainland Bridge.
For Ikorodu bound, motorists approaching Owode Elede from Ketu will keep to the service lane from 4am while the normal flow of traffic would be maintained by 2pm daily.
The commissioner also assured residents that Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) personnel and other relevant agencies’ officials would be on ground to direct traffic to alternatives routes.
“I implore the public to drive cautiously as they approach Mile 12 and Kosofe axis as rehabilitation works on the service lane is set to start immediately, he advised.
Oladeinde, therefore, pleaded with motorists across the state to cooperate, obey all traffic regulations relevant traffic agencies laid down to enhance free flow of traffic during the construction period.
