Ibrahim Magu has been suspended as the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
President Muhammadu Buhari has suspended the incumbent Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, following a six-hour interrogation on fraud-related allegations.
Magu was summoned, yesterday, before the Presidential Panel that oversees the EFCC’s activities. The Borno-indigene, who has been the acting head of the anti-graft agency, was accused by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) Justice Abubakar Malami of diversion of recovered loot, among others.
Magu had been the acting head of the EFCC, since 2015, as his Chairmanship appointment had been rejected twice by the Senate, due to reports from the Department of Security Services (DSS) that accused him of sabotage and unsuitability for the position.
Meanwhile, during Magu’s five-year tenure, over 603 persons were convicted on corruption charges, including military officials and judges.
