Rapper Snoop Dogg’s witty commentary on the match proved a hit, saying it was “like two of my uncles fighting at the barbeque”.
Mike Tyson’s return to the ring after 15 years in a bout against fellow boxing legend Roy Jones Jr has ended in an unofficial draw.
The eight-round exhibition match, which took place at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles, saw both veterans land blows in a lively display.
Former world heavyweight champion Tyson, 54, who shed six stone for the charity contest, said he was pleased with his comeback performance despite the tie.
“I’m good with it. I entertained the crowd. The crowd was happy it,” said Tyson.
He added: “This is better than fighting for championships.
“We’re humanitarians now. We can do something good for the world. We’ve got to do this again.”
Jones Jr, 51, considered one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in history, said afterwards that Tyson’s body shots had “definitely took a toll”.
He said: “I don’t do draws man, but I understand why they say certain things are bucket lists, because when he hits you, if it’s his head, his punches, his body shots, it don’t matter. Everything hurts.
“For me, I thought I did enough boxing on the outside, but I’m cool with the draw. We might have to do it again.”
On the undercard, 23-year-old YouTuber Jake Paul knocked out former NBA star Nate Robinson, 36, in the second round, while former dual-weight world champion Badou Jack beat the previously undefeated cruiserweight Blake McKernan.
Entertainment was provided between bouts by the performers Wiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg.
The latter rapper’s witty fight commentary was a hit on social media after he said the main event was “like two of my uncles fighting at the barbeque”.
Tyson last fought in 2005 when he lost to Kevin McBride – raising eyebrows about his ability to get back in the ring – while Jones Jr, who once held seven belts simultaneously, was still fighting in 2018.
Speaking afterwards, Tyson said: “I was afraid I might get hurt.
“I haven’t done this in 15, 16 years. I’m not a giant, I’m a beginner.”
