The Osun State Police Command on Wednesday said the owner of Hilton Hotel and Resort, Ile-Ife, Ramon Adedoyin, has been arrested in connection with the death of a master student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Timothy Adegoke.
Adegoke went to the town to sit for an exam at the OAU Distance Learning Centre, Moro campus, when he was declared missing on November 7.
It was gathered that Adegoke’s body was discovered after some suspects, including workers at the hotel, were arrested by the police.
The source said, “After police operatives arrested the suspects, they led them to a shallow grave where Adegoke was buried and his corpse was exhumed. The result of the post-mortem is being awaited.”
Although the police confirmed that Adegoke’s remains had been recovered, they did not give further details.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, had earlier said a case of a missing person was reported on November 7 at the Edun Abon Police Station, adding that the matter was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department on November 9, 2021.
Opalola also said after the matter was received at the SCID, detectives swung into action and arrested six suspects.
The police spokesperson, in another statement on Wednesday, said, “The Chairman of Hilton Hotel and Resort, Ile-Ife, Dr Ramon Adegoke Atobatele Adedoyin, was also arrested on 15th November, 2021.
“He is currently in police detention and undergoing interrogation in connection with the case while awaiting the autopsy report from the hospital.”
Meanwhile, Adedoyin’s kinsmen have called on the police to ensure proper investigation into the incident.
One Olusegun Jeje, in a statement on behalf of the Maye-in-Council, said Adedoyin achieved greatness through discipline, dedication, hard work and doggedness.
The statement partly read, “The council appeals to the Nigeria Police Force to do their investigation very well so as not to punish an innocent person.
“A man who has five universities and polytechnics and a Muslim to the core cannot kill a fly.”
