PSG are through to the finals of the UEFA Champions league after a 3-0 win over German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig. Their first Champions league final appearance ever. They qualified in style after breezing past Leipzig in Lisbon Portugal at the Estadio Da Luz. A very cagey early few minutes soon turn in favor of Paris as Kylian Mbbape, back in the starting lineup after recovering from an ankle injury which saw him limited to just a substitute appearance in the quarter final win against Atalanta, he was involved in the build up to what would have been PSG’s first for the night when he gave a defence splitting ball through for Neymar who saw his attempt hit the post on the 7th minute, but they were soon in front in the 13th minute, Neymar was tripped on the left side of the Leipzig area and earned a free kick which Angel Di Maria delivered nicely into the box and was met by a Marquinhos header which he headed home for PSG’s first goal of the night.
PSG were still having the upper hand in terms of possession as they were pilling the pressure on Leipzig defense and soon Kylian Mbappe was one on one with the keeper in the 17th minutes but could only force a save out of the Peter Gulacsi in goal for Leipzig, the game continued with PSG dominating as the German side Leipzig never really settled into the game and where limited to just half chances and never really imposed their self on the game unlike their performance in the previous round.
Paris’s second goal was a very well worked goal as Leandro Paredes pounced on a blunder by the Lie zip keeper and he gave a defence splitting through ball to Neymar who did well to force a back heel pass the path of Di Maria who slot the ball into the back on Leipzig’s goal for a 2nd of the match.
Tuchel’s men would later get their 3rd of the night in a match which they dominated so well through another Angel Di Maria cross which was met by Juan Benat header and he headed home to put his team 3 goals ahead by the 56th minutes, there was a moment of pause after the goal as the referee consulted VAR for reviews and the goal was upheld. This was followed by Leipzig pilling some pressure on PSG as a bid to try and make an effort to get back in the game, Marce Sabitzer powered a good effort on the PSG goal which was well on target but forced a good save from Rico in goal for Paris’. It ended 3-0 at the end as PSG has gotten the job done in very impressive fashion.
The Argentine former Real Madrid and Manchester United player, Angel Di Maria was named man of the match as he gave an influential performance on the night, he gave the 2 assist (crosses) that brought about the 1st and the 3rd headed goals and he was on the score sheet himself for the second goal.
PSG emphatic 3-0 victory would see them in their 1st ever European competition final after playing 110 games in the competition before getting a chance at playing in the finals, the longest number of games played by any European team to get to the final of the competition, their previous best outing in the competition is reaching the Semifinal 25 long years ago as they have been knocked out in the round of 16 in the last four seasons. They would now be facing the winner of the second semifinal match between high flying Bayern Munich or fellow French Ligue 1 side, Lyon in the Sunday final of the UEFA Champions league.
